Barcelona set to announce Kounde signing – report

Despite all the doubts and scepticism, Barcelona seem to have pulled off another coup by swooping away Jules Kounde from under the noses of Chelsea, like they managed to do with Raphinha earlier this summer.

The Catalans appeared down and out in the race for the Frenchman’s signing a couple of days back. However, following the activation of the second economic lever, they were sparked into action, with director Mateu Alemany reportedly working his magic to get the deal over the line.

While reports continue to claim that a deal is not done, Gerard Romero is insistent that Kounde will be a Barcelona player unless there is a drastic turn in the situation.

And the journalist even goes on to add that Barça are already working on announcing the signing of Kounde today or tomorrow, i.e., on Sunday or Monday.

If true, it will be yet another spectacular piece of business from the Blaugrana. Despite adding Andreas Christensen to the ranks, the Catalans have been on the lookout for another defensive signing with a view to slowly phase Gerard Pique out of the first-team setup.

And Kounde, who has been highly impressive in his three-year stint at Sevilla, has been at the top of manager Xavi Hernandez’s summer wishlist.

However, for a while, it looked like Barcelona were set to miss out on Kounde after Chelsea reached an agreement with Sevilla over a €65 million deal.

But the player wanted a transfer to Camp Nou instead and it has seemingly allowed Barcelona to secure a last-minute deal.

Sunday morning has gotten off to a sweet start for the Cules after Barça beat Real Madrid 1-0 in their pre-season friendly. And it could get much sweeter with the club reportedly planning to announce the signing of Kounde, as per Gerard Romero.
